Designing Experiments for Biological Studies using CycDesigN

Course Description

This workshop will focus on the applications of CycDesigN 3.0, a software specifically devised to design experiments. Some of the designs considered are randomized complete block, incomplete block and row-column design. Also, aspects of restricted randomization such as latinization and spatial constrains will be addressed, together with construction of factorial designs when a balanced or semi-balance arrangement of treatments is required. In addition, the details about constructing the appropriate linear mixed models for these experiments will be addressed.

Who should come

This workshop is targeted particularly to scientist/practitioners that will be designing their own field, greenhouse or laboratory experiments, where some complications might arise, such as large number of treatments to evaluate, need to incorporate blocking in two directions (e.g. row and columns), and potential unbalanced product of unequal replication of some of the treatments. Basic knowledge of experimental designs is required, and some knowledge of statistical packages such as SAS is recommended. After the workshop participants should be able to plan and generate their own experimental designs using CyCDesigN and to define the appropriate linear model associated with the design restrictions considered.

More information

More information about CyCDesigN 4.0 can be found here A demonstration version can be downloaded but this will only last for 30 days. Software will not be provided for this workshop.
